Foolishness and Wisdom: God's Gospel of Trust

Howdy all!

In my readings today I came across 1 Corinthians 1. While reading I was struck by the passage that says:

Where is the debater of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world? For since, in the wisdom of God, the world did not know God through wisdom, it pleased God through the folly of what we preach to save those who believe. For Jews demand signs and Greeks seek wisdom, but we preach Christ crucified, a stumbling block to Jews and folly to Gentiles, but to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. For the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men. (English Standard Version)

This passage struck me to ask: What then should we consider as wisdom? For even in Proverbs there is the famous passage: "Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding." The knowledge of man is inadequate. That's what these passages mean. It is the capabilities of man that are inadequate for salvation. The foolishness of man is the trust in his own understanding for forgiveness.  The trust is the key of the passage in Proverbs.  It is not the trust of yourself and your own capabilities, but trust in God that is the penultimate.  This is the foolishness that Paul writes about.

Paul talks about giving up the logic and reason and rhetoric that were so cherished in his day.  Paul even directly attacks the understanding of both Jew and Gentile.  The Jews were to look for a messiah. Therefore, they wanted a sign to show them.  They wanted a tangible thing to show that this man was actually supposed to save them.  Their belief demanded astonishment: feeling.  The Greeks wanted rhetoric, speeches, intelligence, and logic.  They were looking for the λογος τον θεου: the divine word. (literally translated: word of God)  They wanted the opening of eyes and minds.  The Greeks looked for a scholar amongst plebs. They wanted the surprise of knowledge: reason.

Both the  astonishment and knowledge are inadequate because it lacks the essential ingredient of salvation, the essence of the belief of Adam and Eve in the garden of Eden: Trust in the LORD.  Trust in the covenantal, creator God.   This is the heart of salvation.  While many churches, both denominationally and individually, tend to sway either to the knowledge or the experience, they miss the point of the gospel.  The Gospel of God is absolute Trust in God.  You do not hold anything back.  Nothing!  Not a car, or a house, or a toy, or a piece of candy.  Not your money, or time; your love, your hope; your life, your death.  Yes, even your salvation is not in our hands.  For Christ said, "For whoever does the will of God, he is my brother and sister and mother."  We are clay in the potter's hands.  This leads us to the ultimate question:  What are we withholding from Christ?  What will you not give up?  Is it an item? a relationship? a decision?  All things work for our good, because it is not us who is ultimately in control of the work.  It is God who causes his loved ones to prosper in Him.  This is the assurance we have as Christians.  This is the peace that passes all understandings.  Αμήν and amen.

Problems, issues, and internet

Hi everyone! Sadly, my internet is on the fritz. So, I will not be able to post for a bit. I am writing this on my phone, which is not an ideal situation in any sense of the word. I hope to have a new post for you all in the next couple of days.

Sorry for the delay. TI

Scotweb.com

Hi Everyone!  Lately I have been hit by a wave of design fever.

Last year I started designing Tartan patterns for my school.  This was done in the hope of one of them becoming the official tartan for my school.  I really love this website and hope that you will too.

Honestly, I never thought you could do as much stuff with a tartan that you could do.  I will say that my favorite feature is the "Make your own tartan."  It's so much fun!

Well see you around.  I'm working on 2 more posts for you.  An update on the Russia trip and a Song of the day, wrapped with one of my favorite movie quotes!

Song of the Day: Zydrate Anatomy from Repo: the Genetic Opera

Hi All!

These past few days I have been a little under the weather.  (I know it seems like I say that all the time, but that is another topic to talk about later.)  So, I'm sorry for the lack of posting.  Today's song comes from "Repo: The Genetic Opera."  This song has a catchy beat and it's weird repetition gives a trance like quality to it.  The Song of the Day is Zydrate Anatomy. There is another version of the song that I am not able to post here.  So, I will post the link at the bottom of the post if you would like to see the performance as opposed to only the music.

To start from the beginning:  The world has become overly obsessed with plastic surgery.  These surgeries replace badly damaged organs from an epidemic of organ failures.  The company that runs all of this is GeneCo.  They make sure you pay on time.  If not, you face repossession of the organ.  This is done by a black rubber clad surgeon.  These surgeries are done with no anesthetic, and have a 100% mortality rate.  The guy is a legal assassin, to put it bluntly.  But, for those that can afford it, these surgeries save lives and make those with the money, look like anything they want.  These people that have undergone many surgeries are ones that are "addicted to the knife."  These people deal with constant pain from the constant process of healing due to their addiction.  But, there is help! Zydrate is a wonder drug that causes relief from the pain.  It works sort of like a weed laced pcp high.  It's explained better in the performance.

But this has lead me to a question:  What is our price for looking the way we should?  And when pain comes, what are willing to do to make it go away?  Is it enough to not feel anything?

I have recently been dealing with a lot of pain, but due to my convictions I am not taking pain killers.  I used to be dependent on pain killers to help the pain from healing my various injuries.  But even dealing with the pain, there are days where dealing with normal aches and pains is a way of life.  These aches and pains are not only physical, but also mental and emotional.  You can only deal with so much before it catches up with you.  But the true question that has been troubling me is the issue of feeling nothing.  I have been hurt by so many people and think, sometimes it would be easier to to feel nothing.  At least I wouldn't be hurt, but it is at the price of joy.  The roller coaster of life is not a 0 sum game, nothing in this world is.  If you think it is, you need to look around at life.  But the ultimate decision is to become jaded to the point of no feeling or to find a solution for the depression in life.  The cause of the feeling in the opera is surgery, in real life it is grades, relationships, or death that can push you past the proverbial edge.  Sorrow is not something to be laughed at.  It is very real, and very much a problem.  Has it effected you enough to make you want to feel nothing?

Just copy and paste if you want to see the performance version:

Song of the Day: Mohombi "I Love You"

Hi All!

I know, it has been too long since the last time I posted.  I'm Sorry! :(

This Song of the Day is from Mohombi.  I was introduced to his music by a friend while we were doing homework in Starbucks.  While his messages tend to be shallow and about some superfluous type of lust (watch "Bumpy Ride" if you don't believe me), this song has a message that I can easily relate with.  Lately the lack of a significant other has been hitting me rather hard.  My family has been asking a lot of questions, none of which ameliorate the situation.  I know my family loves me, but sometimes the jokes at my expense get old.  Jokes are one thing, but my family is incessant with destructive comments.  Sadly, my love life has been the butt of many jokes.  They have also been directed against both myself and another person that I had a relationship with.  This has caused me to rethink and realize what qualities I saw that attracted me to her in the first place.  I realize that I was attracted for the right reasons and even though things didn't work out, the Lord provided in ways I never thought he would.  Whatever the Lord has planned for me in the future, whomever it may be with.  So, without further ado, here is Mohombi's "I Love You"  TI
